RL with Azula - So you thought you were safe?

Zel was in a very good mood. Quite apart from feeling as if he was drunk out of his mind, he was almost certain he'd actually managed to win an argument with Azula for the first time in... ever. He managed to force himself to stop being smug, being aware, if only through a haze of alcohol he hadn't actually consumed, that this would not be useful in helping Azula.

He was still having trouble with the concept of her not wanting his help - surely if the virus was that bad she should welcome someone willing to help her relieve it? Eventually he dismissed it as Azula being her normal difficult self and decided that she'd surely warm up to the idea eventually. He couldn't help giggling a little at the unintentional pun in his own internal monologue, either.

He hummed happily to himself as he he gave a slightly arrhythmic knock at the door to her room. "Hello, Fire Lord?" he called out.

"I mean something you really couldn't let anyone else deal with. Not just because you think everyone else is incompetent."

"It wouldn't be appropriate for me to pawn off all of my duties onto other people-- even the ones that they could do. I'm a ruler, not a figurehead."

"All right, you win." He sighed. "It's not as if getting such devices is that easy even on the community, you know."

"You have to know how to network." The sense of superiority she was feeling was obvious in her tone.

"So I don't look for connections in my friends. What's your point?"

"I don't look for friends in my connections."

"I'm not interested in having power. One person plus myself is about as much as I'm willing to take responsibility for."

"I never said you were interested in power."

"Then stop acting like you're superior just because you are interested."

"I'm superior for plenty of reasons."

He sighed. "Forget it. My head hurts too much for this."

Azula fell silent.

He raised an eyebrow. "Do you really not remember anything that happened?"

She frowned. "Just you touching my back."

"Hah. Then you do remember. Except, apparently, for the fact that you fell asleep when I did that. On top of me."

Azula barely hesitated before answering. "... You're exaggerating." He had to be-- right?

He shook his head. "I'm not sure why exactly that made you fall asleep, but it did." He was conveniently leaving out the long conversation they'd had in her sleep, but still.

"I don't fall asleep on people," she scoffed.

"You claim not to do a lot of things." He drummed his fingers against the wall. "Do you remember falling asleep at all?"

"No."

"Then how do you know if you did fall asleep on me or not?"

"Because I don't do that sort of thing."

"You don't normally respond like that to being touched, either, and I don't normally end up drunk without touching a drop of alcohol."

"Respond like what?" There was a dangerous edge to her tone.
