RL with Azula - So you thought you were safe?

Zel was in a very good mood. Quite apart from feeling as if he was drunk out of his mind, he was almost certain he'd actually managed to win an argument with Azula for the first time in... ever. He managed to force himself to stop being smug, being aware, if only through a haze of alcohol he hadn't actually consumed, that this would not be useful in helping Azula.

He was still having trouble with the concept of her not wanting his help - surely if the virus was that bad she should welcome someone willing to help her relieve it? Eventually he dismissed it as Azula being her normal difficult self and decided that she'd surely warm up to the idea eventually. He couldn't help giggling a little at the unintentional pun in his own internal monologue, either.

He hummed happily to himself as he he gave a slightly arrhythmic knock at the door to her room. "Hello, Fire Lord?" he called out.

Azula slipped to the side a little, lightly leaning against one of the many upright pillows on the bed (she had dragged them all from the linen closet after the virus had first reared its ugly head). Her eyes remained shut.

Zel couldn't help smiling slightly. It looked like she was finally starting to relax.

Her breathing slowed, evening out. Shifting a little again, she leaned backwards into his hand.

He kept rubbing gently, not wanting to startle her by changing something suddenly. It occurred to him that she was actually almost cute like this. The operative word being "almost".

By this point, she was half-asleep, and leaning further and further still onto the mess of pillows.

"You okay, 'zula?" Zel asked in what he probably thought was a whisper.

"Hmmm. There aren't any in that cupboard; check the other one."

If he ever called her out on talking in her sleep, she would refuse to believe it.

He laughed softly. "Now yer jus' bein' shilly,"

"I'm doing nothing of the sort." Still asleep.

"Yesh you are." He smiled, trailing a hand down her spine again.

Azula burrowed her face against the pillow, still craving touch even in her sleep. "They put it in the wrong cupboard again," she muttered, her voice muffled. "Incompetent."

"'shokay," he murmured, his hand trailing back up her back to rub at the back of her neck gently. "We c'n move it to the right one, can't we? Or get them to do it."

"Ty Lee won't." She'd especially deny sleep-talking if she was told that mentions of Ty Lee came up frequently. After all, why would she talk about someone so insignificant?

"Why can't we get her t'help?" he asked softly, his fingers starting to tangle in her hair.

"She won't come back." Azula leaned up into his touch.

"'zula..." He whispered her name sadly. "'m shorry..."

She frowned a little, shifting around some more. "She wouldn't do it, either way."

"'f you say so," he murmured. "Relax, 'zula..."

She let out a heavy sigh. "... But Lisa will come back tonight."

"She can help then, right?" he murmured, starting to work his hands into her shoulders, massaging them gently if rather inexpertly.

"I don't need a doctor, and I already got that stupid shot." She leaned into that even further, her ear hitting his shoulder.

"Thassh right," he murmured gently. "Jus' stay here an' relax for now."

She leaned further onto him with every word. "But tell her."

He started to stroke his hands along her sides, flushing at the way she leaned against him. "Tell 'er what, 'zula?"

She pressed against his side; the more contact she got, the more she wanted. "I want her to come."
