RL with Azula - So you thought you were safe?

Zel was in a very good mood. Quite apart from feeling as if he was drunk out of his mind, he was almost certain he'd actually managed to win an argument with Azula for the first time in... ever. He managed to force himself to stop being smug, being aware, if only through a haze of alcohol he hadn't actually consumed, that this would not be useful in helping Azula.

He was still having trouble with the concept of her not wanting his help - surely if the virus was that bad she should welcome someone willing to help her relieve it? Eventually he dismissed it as Azula being her normal difficult self and decided that she'd surely warm up to the idea eventually. He couldn't help giggling a little at the unintentional pun in his own internal monologue, either.

He hummed happily to himself as he he gave a slightly arrhythmic knock at the door to her room. "Hello, Fire Lord?" he called out.

Azula just lay there comfortably.

He pulled away for a moment to catch his breath. He couldn't believe this was happening, but he didn't really want to stop.

He ran a hand through her hair gently, smiling. "You're beautiful, 'zula," he whispered, leaning close again for what he insisted really would be one last kiss this time.

"I know," she mumbled. Even when sleep-talking, she was never modest.

His lips met hers one last time, certain that pressing his luck once more was a bad idea but unable to stop himself.

"Ty Lee?" she murmured.

He didn't answer, just continuing to run his hand through her hair.

"... Just don't leave again."

"Won't leave," he whispered. "Promise."

She sighed again. "But I'm still staying here."

"Good." He ran his hand through her hair one last time. "'ll be right here with you."

"I'm not going to France."

"Don't have to. Don't have to go anywhere at all. Can shtay righ' here," he slurred, kissing her again, having come to the conclusion that nothing would happen.

"No. When the virus is over I'll have to go home." Still no reaction to the kiss.

"'ll go with you," he murmured. "Want to stay with you." He was aware, somewhere in the back of his mind, of the ridiculous things he was promising, but at the moment he was focused on staying with her.

"Good. Come with me." Unlike Zel, she wasn't aware at all at the moment.

"I will," he whispered, running a hand through her hair. "Go wherever you go, 'zula..."

"Promise?"

"Promise," he whispered, putting a lot more passion behind the kiss this time.

That silenced her, for obvious reasons.

Zel didn't seem to be inclined to break the kiss this time; his arms wound around her tightly, holding her close.

Eventually, however, Azula needed to breathe, and she turned her head away on her own, tucking it against his shoulder.

Zel gave a slightly zoned-out smile, a little breathless himself. "Mm... That was nice..."

"Hmmm," she murmured, her voice muffled again. "... You'd really be upset if I left?"

"Uh-huh. Wan' you t'shtay..." He nuzzled against her hair, running his hands down her back.

"... They all leave."
